A Light Despite All The Darkness: Paula's Message (14 January 2021)

14th January 2021 |

“Hope is being able to see there is a light despite all the darkness”

“There was never a night or problem that could defeat sunrise or hope”

As I said before Christmas the next few weeks and early months of 2021 are going to be tough. With COVID-19 rates increasing and spreading we are going to see more of the people we support and our teams become positive, and some will undoubtedly become very poorly. However there is hope!  We now have three vaccines that are being rolled out. Some of our teams and people we support are being offered and receiving the vaccine already. Clearly we would like all the people we support and our teams to receive the vaccine as soon as possible and continue to press for this to happen.

However it is going to take time to get the full roll-out of the vaccine programme. During this time we have to keep doing things to keep each other safe. If this was a marathon I would say we were at the 20 mile mark, we have come so far, most of the distance and the hard work has been covered, however there is still some distance to go and we can’t stop running or we will make the first 20 miles pointless!

As teams you have worked so hard to live out our values and enable people to be as safe and happy as possible during these times. You genuinely put others first, have gone the extra mile, been transparent, creative and very adaptable. You have covered shifts for each other, kept wearing PPE, have come up with amazing and creative ways of keeping people busy and happy, and you have looked after each other. I know it’s hard but the finishing line is in sight. Please keep doing things that keep you and the people we support safe.  Also please look after you and each other.

Don't be afraid to ask for help

If you are finding things tough please speak to someone you trust and/or your line manager. If for some reason you can’t do that please contact me or one of the senior team. We really want to make sure you are OK and if you need extra support we can sort that out.

Also Alan, our Chair, and I were talking about all the amazing examples we have of how each of the teams are living out our values. Although I frequently write letters to individuals to thank people we thought it would be great to thank people publicly on here and other forums, for all your amazing work. So if you would like me to give someone a "shout out" on here for how they have lived out our values please e-mail lisa.simm@futuredirectionscic.co.uk and let me know what they have done that you would like me to highlight.

Can I also take this opportunity to thank each of you for all the brilliant work you do every day to keep the people we support safe and happy. Each of you can be proud, and know that when we get to the other side of this that you have worked through the worst pandemic we have ever had, you have put others before yourself and you were, and are, true heroes!!
