“Where Communities Come Together”

After a year of planning, in May 2020 the River Beal Café will be coming to Rochdale…

The café will offer its customers the best tasting coffee beverages in the area. This will be achieved by using high quality ingredients and strictly following preparation guidelines. It will also provide a range of free magazines, newspapers and free access to Wi-Fi. It will occupy a space of approximately 86 square meters, which will include seating areas with 15 tables, a kitchen, office, storage and toilet areas. Please see below one example of café design.

The menu of the café will be built around espresso-based coffee drinks such as lattes, mochas, cappuccinos, etc. and will also offer a range of pastries, cakes, salads, sandwiches and toasties. It will employ a full-time manager, a deputy manager, and also employ a number of part-time baristas/volunteer posts which will be offered to local vulnerable adults as paid employment opportunities.

Our convenient location and excellent customer service will build a steady repeat customer base. The café will provide top quality products, great service and plenty of seating areas, both indoors and outdoors. It will be the destination place to meet with friends, relax and enjoy a great cup of coffee.

Social Value

The café project will be based on a number of key social value principles and will have a positive impact on the local community. It will bring people together and provide a hub for the local community where people can build meaningful connections, share interests with one another, and help reduce social isolation. We will also provide jobs and skills development, which in turn will help build people’s confidence, resilience and support independence.

Breaking down stigma and negative perceptions of the River Beal project by providing a means to further enhance community value through positive contact with people with learning disabilities and mental health
Living out our values
Putting people first
Providing voluntary and paid employment careers for vulnerable adults
Bringing the local community closer together by becoming a daily necessity for Milnrow residents and commuters
Create a space for the local community to use as an inviting café and a resource for local groups and activities, e.g. book club, board game group, yoga classes
Create local training and voluntary opportunities, enabling people to develop work-based skills
Support mental wellbeing and loneliness, e.g. a chatter and natter table/volunteer
