Our Success at Stars of Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards

Future Directions picks up The Joy Maker Award
On the 5th December, at the 2025 Stars of Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards, Future Directions CIC picked up The Joy Maker award at Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel. Our Music Man Kevin Phoenix, and Stuart Vallantine, were recognised for bringing joy to the people we support across the North of England.
Since joining Future Directions at the start of the COVID pandemic, Kevin and Stuart help the people we support to live great lives. These include our social events, musical and performing arts activities like the Stronger Together Community Choir, Fun Time Friday, and our inclusive pantomime. Also games afternoons and thematic events at Future Directions’ community hub in Milnrow, River Beal Café.
Kevin also received an award for being the Best Dressed guest with his dazzling outfit.
In addition to Kevin and Stuart’s success, Commendations were given to Jenny Neville – our Autism Lead under the Awesome Autism Specialist category – and Paul Lord, our Non-Verbal Communications Lead, under the Lifetime Luminary category.
Kevin and Stuart picked up their Joy Maker award from The Traitors’ Alexander Dragonetti.
On receiving his award, Kevin said: “Some gifts are priceless; for me, the ability to bring joy to others, whether at work or in everyday life – is the one that means the most.”
Stuart said, “It means a lot to the people we support at Future Directions, to make a positive difference to their lives by bringing joy and happiness.”
On his commendation, Paul said: “I was delighted to receive the award in recognition for what is almost 50 years of service to learning disabled and autistic people.
“The award has made me think about the great people, who I have met along the way who have had a positive influence on me and my work. The achievement has inspired me to continue working hard and keep pushing the boundaries.”
