The idea for this project came from Eric, a SPICE member and person we support in Trafford. He drew a picture of a ‘Recycling Man’ and told us that he wanted to show people how to recycle and tell them why it is so important.
This project includes:
Training:
We have developed a training course to raise awareness about the importance of recycling.
The course is delivered by people who have learning disabilities themselves, so it is accessible and easy to understand. We aim to make learning fun, whilst giving people the skills to waste less and recycle more.
Art and Craft Sessions:
We run monthly sessions in Sale and Rochdale where we use used materials to create something new.
Previous sessions have included making musical instruments (followed by a sing song).
Litter pick walks:
We hold regular litter pick walks. We provide equipment and plan a route that is accessible for all. We usually meet in a local café for a catch up and a drink before or after the walk.
This project is funded through the Suez Recycle for Greater Manchester Community Fund. The Recycle for Greater Manchester Community Fund aims to promote positive behaviour change in individuals and families across Greater Manchester to reduce waste materials.
